YOY’s Ethereal Hollow LACE Pillow

Japanese design studio YOY has unveiled their latest work entitled ‘LACE.’ LACE is a hollow cushion made of lace that was created in partnership with Mitsui Chemicals, a leading chemical industry manufacturer.

Although it looks like it is structured with handmade lace, this work is actually molded with an ultra lightweight polyurethane material called STABiO that offers the comfort of a normal cushion.

Based in Tokyo, YOY is a design studio comprising Naoki Ono, a spatial designer, and Yuki Yamamoto, a product designer. They formed their design team in 2011, with the aim of creating a new story and relationship between space, objects and materials.

YOY explain that LACE is at the moment a prototype and they are looking for a partner to bring it to the market with.
