MaterialDistrict Pop-up: New Luxury

During the Metstrade 2018 show you can enjoy MaterialDistrict Pop-up on 13, 14 and 15 November, with the theme “New Luxury”. This exhibition is entirely dedicated to materials for yacht building.

The METSTRADE show is the only international B2B exhibition for the marine leisure industry. It combines new products, seminars and unrivalled networking opportunities for visitors to connect across countries, technologies and industry sectors. MaterialDistrict Pop-up will be present in the Elicium in RAI Amsterdam with 12 partners and an exhibition of 120 especially selected new materials.

Exhibition New Luxury
Change is in the air. Fashion, architecture, mobility: the real luxury lifestyle is about unwinding, relaxing, and making a statement responsibly. Like Armani is showing with fashion and interior: it is not about the bling, but about real, custom-made, personal things that are good in every sense of the word. Which yacht designers and builders are working that way? What is a “good” boat in this world of luxury? The examples and references in this exhibition will show that intelligent, biobased and recycled materials can be beautiful and luxurious.

What about recycled felt, beautiful recycled leather, lightweight composites made of hemp, wooden textiles or acoustic wool? Come and see the innovative “good” materials at New Luxury and get inspired!

Facing challenges on the I-nnovationLAB Stage
MaterialDistrict will also see a series of lectures and presentations organised on the I-nnovationLAB Stage in Hall 6 throughout the three days of the exhibition.

The lecture by Marcel Vroom, manager new business at NPK design and managing partner at industrial and graphic design company MVAVD, will cover materials as interfaces. Products will become systems of functional layers that interact with people and their environments. These materials will not only be applied in smart products, but also in architecture and public spaces. Marcel’s presentation will take place at 15.45 – 16.15 on 13 November.

On 15 November at 10.45 – 11.15, CMF trend forecaster and owner of RNA Design Anouk Groen will talk about trends in colour, material, finish and market movements, stemming from an annual, large-scale research.

MaterialDistrict’s creative director Els Zijlstra will take to the stage 11.15 – 11.45 on 14 November and 13.15 – 13.45 on 15 November. Entitled ‘New Luxury’, her presentation will focus on how luxury is not about the bling anymore, but about real, custom-made, personal materials and products that are good in every sense of the word. The examples and references in this lecture will show that intelligent, biobased and recycled materials can be beautiful and luxurious.

See you in Amsterdam!
