MaterialDistrict Talks: Aging Materials
|Start date||13 December 2018|
|End date||13 December 2018|
|Time||4:00 pm - 6:00 pm|
|Location||Broeinest, Rotterdam (NL)|
On 13 December, MaterialDistrict and Broeinest present MaterialDistrict Talks: Aging Materials. Some materials are like wine and cheese: the older and more mature, the better. They have character; materials that become more beautiful the older they become. Using a variety of examples, MaterialDistrict’s own Els Zijlstra will shed light on this subject.
The unique pattern on calcified concrete, the nuanced colours of patina, the worn out structure of weathered wood, sun-bleached linen, the organic craquelure effect of coatings and glaze… Aged surfaces are so popular that the process is sped up or simply copied. But allowing something to change it appearance slowly can also be an art form.
The lecture by Els will be held in English.
