MOSO Bamboo Forest
Solid three-layer bamboo floorboard with a top layer of flattened bamboo stem, showing the natural nodes and hard outer skin.
Bamboo Forest by MOSO is a solid floorboard whose top layer is the bamboo stem itself, flattened in a special process. The nodes and the hard outer skin stay visible, so the floor shows the plant it came from.
The surface is the stony bark of the stem. It is hard and wear-resistant enough to need no oil or lacquer. A floor wax can protect it and close the small bevel gaps. Each board has three layers of solid bamboo. The top layer is about 2.8 mm thick, and the board has a density of around 850 kg/m³. Its colour runs from honey to dark brown, with darker bands at every node.

Boards measure 1100 × 102 × 15 mm, with micro-bevelled edges. They can be glued down or laid floating, and suit underfloor heating and cooling under conditions. The floor is for indoor use. It reaches fire class Cfl-s1 and meets the E1 formaldehyde class. MOSO also supplies an EPD, FSC certification and a 30-year guarantee. According to the maker, the process uses more of each stem than standard bamboo flooring.

The floor has been laid in an apartment in Oslo and in the restaurant of Campus Hotel Hertenstein in Switzerland. Samples can be requested from MOSO, the Dutch bamboo specialist based in Zwaag. Its N-durance bamboo cladding is also on MaterialDistrict.
