A 3D printed chair made of leather waste

French design studio hors-studio, in collaboration with Emmanuel Hugnot, designed a 3D printed chair made of leather waste.

Called Trosne, the modular chair can be altered in height by adding building blocks underneath the seat. The idea is that since warm air rises, the chair occupant can rise with it when it’s cold, to stay warm. When not in use, the blocks can be used as a coffee table.

The chair is 3D printed using leather waste, a material called Leatherock. The design studio is also able to print furniture with textile, paper and byssus (filaments made by molluscs).
