Indestructible Belt Highlights Extreme-Performance Aramid Fibre And Aerospace Engineering

Vollebak’s Indestructible Belt brings advanced material technology into a consumer product. The belt combines aramid fibre, aerospace-grade aluminium and precision engineering. For fashion designers and product designers, it offers a clear example of how high-performance materials can move from safety equipment into everyday design.

Aramid Fibre With Exceptional Strength

The 34mm-wide strap is made from 100% DuPont Kevlar aramid fibre. Designers often use aramid in body armour and spacecraft shielding because of its high tensile strength and heat resistance. Weight for weight, it is up to five times stronger than steel. The strap can support loads of more than three tonnes (3,044 daN / 3,104 kg).

The fibre’s yellow colour is natural. Manufacturers do not dye it. The polymer’s molecular structure creates both its strength and its distinctive appearance. The material also resists cuts, slashes and punctures.

Kevlar does not melt or drip under high heat. The strap withstands temperatures up to 427°C. In laboratory surface ignition tests, the material did not catch fire. These properties make aramid fibres relevant for protective clothing, safety products, transport interiors and other high-stress environments.

High-Strength Aluminium Buckle

The belt uses a COBRA PRO STYLE buckle made from high-strength aluminium. The buckle withstands forces up to 18 kN (1,835 kg) in loop configuration. A patented locking mechanism prevents it from releasing under tension.

Engineers originally developed this buckle for safety-critical applications. Felix Baumgartner wore the same system during his supersonic freefall from space. The buckle also features a KTL coating for corrosion resistance and a rear cut-out that prevents dirt, ice and snow from building up.

For product designers, this component shows how lightweight metals can deliver structural reliability and long-term durability.

Designed For Longevity

The belt weighs 143 grams. Makers assemble it using 12 rows of fire-resistant para-aramid thread. Riri produces the engraved aluminium belt tip. The product comes in a custom anodised metal case with a 3D printed latch. Final assembly takes place in the UK.
