Sintered Stone Showroom Highlights Material Applications

The WOSA Sintered Stone Showroom by the Volks Design in Shanghai demonstrates innovative applications of lightweight sintered stone, combining art, architecture, and interior design. Designed for architects, interior designers, and commercial space developers, the project explores the structural and aesthetic versatility of this engineered material.

Repurposed Factory Space
Located in a repurposed 580m² factory, the showroom showcases how stone materials can be used to create contemporary and functional interior spaces. Lightweight sintered stone is presented as a sustainable alternative to traditional stone, offering durability and design flexibility.

The entrance features a translucent curtain constructed from ultra-thin white sintered stone slates, highlighting the material’s lightness and precision. Inside, a black stone-clad space leads to a curved staircase covered in golden stone tiles, demonstrating the material’s potential for both structural and decorative applications.

Material Applications and Design Features
The showroom integrates floating stone elements, mirrored surfaces, and suspended structures to create a sense of openness and lightness. These design features highlight sintered stone’s suitability for vertical and horizontal surfaces in interiors, retail spaces, and installations.

A notable element is the VIP chamber, which combines metallic finishes with intricately tiled wooden interiors, illustrating the material’s adaptability in mixed-material designs. The inclusion of volcanic-like stone formations and contemporary sculptures further emphasises the material’s versatility for bespoke interior and spatial solutions.

Commercial and Exhibition Design
The WOSA showroom integrates digital storytelling through LED screens and immersive design features, providing visitors with insights into the production and applications of sintered stone. The combination of material displays, sculptural installations, and mirrored surfaces encourages exploration and demonstrates the material’s creative potential in commercial spaces.

By presenting stone in unconventional forms, the project highlights its use beyond functional applications, offering inspiration for retail design, exhibition spaces, and architectural detailing.
