Søuld Acoustic Divider: Acoustic Performance in Natural Materials

News · Story by MaterialDistrict · 28 Oct 2025 · 1 min read

The Danish company Søuld introduces the Søuld Acoustic Divider, a freestanding element that improves both sound quality and spatial layout in interiors. It is suitable for offices, restaurants, and hospitality spaces, creating calm environments while reducing noise.

Acoustic Performance and Flexibility

The divider uses Søuld Acoustic Mats made from natural eelgrass. These achieve Acoustic Class A, the highest level of sound absorption. Each module functions as both a room divider and a pinboard, making it useful in flexible workplaces or shared spaces. Designers can choose between two standard sizes – 500 × 1500 mm and 1000 × 1500 mm – and install them as single freestanding units or link them to form a folding wall system.

Natural Materials and Craftsmanship

Søuld manufactures the dividers from FSC-certified European oak, eelgrass, and Danish textiles from Kjellerup Væveri. These materials are chosen for their strength, natural texture, and low environmental impact. Eelgrass, a fast-growing marine plant, stores carbon while it grows and improves indoor air quality thanks to low emissions and natural humidity control. Simple wooden dowel joints allow quick assembly and disassembly without complex fittings.

Design for Circular Interiors

The divider has no front or back, allowing it to fit naturally in open layouts. It follows a design-for-disassembly principle so components can be reused or recycled. The textile panels come in a range of colours and patterns inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese design. This approach gives designers flexibility for both temporary and permanent interior settings.

Sustainable Acoustic Solution

The Søuld Acoustic Divider combines natural materials, acoustic comfort, and modular design. It offers a sustainable and visually balanced solution for architects, interior designers, and product designers looking to integrate biobased and circular materials into modern interiors.
