Velo Chair Highlights Recycled Materials and Responsive Design

LAYER and Spanish manufacturer Andreu World introduce Velo, a task chair developed with a strong focus on material behaviour, comfort and circularity. The chair, first shown at NeoCon 2025, aims to meet the growing demand for ergonomic and sustainable seating in modern workplaces.

Ergonomic performance

Velo works through a weight-activated mechanism that replaces traditional levers and mechanical adjustment systems. This system relies on how the materials flex and respond to the user. As a result, the chair adapts continuously to posture and movement. The approach reduces mechanical complexity and highlights how materials can drive ergonomic performance.

The backrest comes in two material options. The breathable mesh version offers ventilation and a lightweight appearance, making it suitable for active work areas. The fully upholstered textile version has a more substantial look but still follows the body’s movements. In both cases, the contoured frame distributes pressure while supporting natural motion. Optional lumbar support and adjustable armrests allow users to refine the level of comfort, which can be useful in longer work sessions.

Circular construction and material efficiency

The chair places strong emphasis on recycled materials and circular design. Its frame and base use high-performance recycled thermopolymer, chosen for strength, durability and recyclability. This material choice helps reduce environmental impact while ensuring long-term performance.

Velo also uses a reduced number of components, which lowers material use and improves repairability. Because the parts separate easily, the chair supports responsible end-of-life processing. Upholstery options include recyclable and low-impact textiles, which adds another layer of sustainability to the design.

Adaptable design for diverse interiors

The chair’s soft, organic silhouette fits into both commercial and residential environments. Designers can specify mesh or textile surfaces, as well as a range of powder-coated base finishes. Thanks to its light frame and neutral form, Velo transitions easily between different settings, from flexible offices to home workspaces.
