Eat Me: Artist Transforms Discarded Mattresses Into ‘Street Food’

French artist Lor-K turns discarded mattresses found on the streets of Paris into delightful, over-sized ‘street-food’ sculpture. Her creations include sushi, pizza, waffles, cakes and sandwiches to name a few.

To transform the mattresses, she makes use of a variety of materials and tools including spray paint, saws, cutters, knives and scissors as well as sewing equipment, string and tape.

Lor-K explains ‘My main goal is to attract the attention of passerbys to the waste littering the sidewalks of our cities. I wish to highlight their potential.’ As Lor-K sees it, the items left abandoned on our city streets are not waste but rather raw materials. Her works are further a way of transforming banal, everyday objects into something quite fantastic. ‘I’m always observing the streets, and I constantly photograph every abandoned object I find,’ she says. ‘When I feel creative I jump on my scooter and go searching the streets for the perfect spot.’
